Yesterday I went to my first MeetUp. I joined the Rangefinder Documentary Shooters meetup to cover the St. Francis of Assisi Good Friday Procession in Little Italy in Toronto. The Procession has been an event for over 50 years. Our group met a the Aroma Coffee on College and we headed for St. Francis of Assisi just south of Grace St. and College St. We arrived early to photograph the preparation of the floats and the volunteers, however, the cold weather may have kept the volunteers in the church and at home until closer to commencement as there were more photographers than volunteers. Over time Roman soldiers, a number of Jesuses, apostles, and band members rolled in. As far as I know there was only one Judas. Apparently there’s only one volunteer willing to play the most infamous apostle.
For the photographers who are curious about the equipment I shot with the following:
- Leica M9 with 35mm Summicron
- Fujifilm XT-10 with the 16mm f1.4 (24mm FF-equivalent)
The most important pieces of equipment were your hat and gloves!
It was a little cold for ice cream…
I sought refuge in the church for a few minutes to escape the cold…
